(Josef
(Jan
(Smetana
(Suk Chamber

Today in the
history of music
Czech violinist Josef Suk Jr. was born in Prague on Aug. 8, 1929
Josef Suk, the Czech violinist, died in Prague on July 7, 2011, at the
age of 81.
Born in Prague on August 8, 1929, Suk came from a great musical family
-- his grandfather Josef Suk (1874-1935) was a famous Czech composer and
violinist and a prominent representative of the Czech national musical
spirit. He studied under Dvorak at Prague Conservatory of Music in his
early years.Extraordinary musical ability is appreciated not only by the
teacher, still won the heart of The daughter Of Dvorak, Ottika, suk's
grandfather eventually becomes dvorak's son-in-law.
Joseph Suker grew up in such a privileged musical environment. Not only
does he carry on the family line, but he also inherits his predecessors'
love of music and their extraordinary talent. He learned from the famous
Czech violinist Kochian as a child and became active in classical music
as a soloist in his adult life. Its playing skill is exquisite, the music
often lets the listener associate with its unusual origin, the origin of
the family study.Suke is not only an excellent soloist, but also a
chamber music performer full of cooperative spirit. In 1951, at age 22,
he founded the Suk Trio. He was also a member of the Prague Quartet,
with whom he collaborated for many years: the pianist Jan Panenka, the
harpsichredist Zuzana Ruzickova and the Smetana Quartet. In 1974, Mr. Suk
founded and conducted the 13-member Suk Chamber Orchestra.Suker's
performance is precise and elegant, insightful and lyrical. Thanks to the
musical talents of his great-grandfather Dvorak and his grandfather
Joseph Suker, the elder, his brilliant playing skills and noble and
elegant temperament were brought into full play.Suke's playing tone is
colorful, some people describe his sound as clear as blue crystal bright
and yet deep.Suker's achievement in conducting was as remarkable as his
performance.

Josef Suk
(1874-1935) Czech composer, violinist and viola player. He was
Anton Dvorak's student and son-in-law.
Born on January 4, 1874, in Krakovis, Czech republic. He learned
music from his father at an early age.In 1885, he studied violin
and composition at the Prague Conservatory of Music. After
graduating in the summer of 1892, he stayed at the college for
many years, studying chamber music and composition with Dvorak
and becoming his favorite student. In the same year he visited
Dvorak's villa in Visoga, a village south of Prague, and fell in
love with his teacher's daughter, Odelia, whom he married in
1898.
After he left Visoga in 1891, he composed his famous violin solo
serenade -- A Song of Love in a state of deep yearning and
nostalgia, in order to consign his beautiful memories. It was
soft and bright, a far cry from some of his earlier gloomy,
darkly coloured works. His first performance of the piece at the
Prague Conservatory on 25 December 1894 made him famous and
established him as a violinist and composer in the history of
Czech music.
Suker music career can be roughly divided into three parts, as
the violinist, he is "the Czech string quartet group" (called
"Bohemian") at the beginning of one of the founders of, and as
the band in the 1892-1933 has been the second violinist, perform
more than 4000 concerts, have been to many countries travel to
access and performance. His performance is colorful, expressive
and varied, and his performance skills are extremely rich. With
exquisite artistic expression, he brings the noble and elegant
temperament of the violin into full play.In 1922, he became
professor of composition and later President of Prague
Conservatory of Music. As a composer, he has come to the
attention of the world since the song of Love.Although he
enjoyed chamber music, his orchestral compositions were the most
popular.
Suk's creation is closely related to the Czech classical music
tradition, but also often draws nourishment from Czech folk
songs and dance music, also with some late romantic
style.Although he has a close relationship with Dvorak, his
works still show a distinct personality, with a deep expression
of inner feelings and imagination.Later creative tendencies are
more complex and even tend to atonal music. He has created a
large number of violin pieces throughout his life, of which the
song of Love is the most representative.Other works include
orchestral music for plays, Durazquez and Mahurena, two
symphonies, dramatic overture, Scherzo del Fantasia, Serenade
for strings, symphonic poem Prague, two string quartets, one
Piano Quintet and six Pieces of Sketch for piano suite.
Suker's second symphony, Azrael the Reaper, was written in
memory of his late wife.It was a great blow to Dvorak when,
shortly after his death in 1905, She died too.The whole song is
sad and tragic. It was almost 30 years in the making and reflects
his deep inner pain and struggle. As an educator, he trained more
than 30 famous composers, including Bohuslav Martinu. He died on
May 29, 1935, in Beneshov, near Prague, at the age of 61. |
